Jeremy Salt, the author of The Unmaking of the Middle East: A History of Western Disorder in Arab Lands (University of California Press: Berkeley, 2008), is presently on leave from Bilkent University, Ankara, where he teaches in the Department of Political Science. He previously taught at Bosporus University in Istanbul and, at the University of Melbourne, in the Department of Political Science and the former Department of Middle Eastern Studies.
His first book, Imperialism, Evangelism and the Ottoman Armenians 1878-1896 was published in London in 1993. His articles have appeared in such publications as Middle Eastern Studies, Journal of Palestine Studies, Current History, the Muslim World, the International Journal of Turkish Studies, Third World Quarterly and, in Australia, Arena journal and magazine. Currently he is again researching late Ottoman history, this time focussing on the First World War and its effects on the Ottoman civilian population.
